Snowshoe Hike at Mt. Elbert

Saturday, March 10: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM

The Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area (AHRA) has an energizing snowshoe hike planned on Saturday March 10, to usher out winter and welcome spring. AHRA volunteer naturalist Bob Hickey will conduct a day hike on the Lily Pond Loop, a secluded area located on the east side of Mt. Elbert. The hike is a moderate 3 mile round-trip and will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 1 p.m. The trail gently climbs through forested terrain and stunning aspen groves, with a number of beautiful view points to the east toward the Mosquito Range, south across the Twin Lakes, and west to Mt. Elbert.

Hikers should always dress for the weather, have their own snowshoes, bring water, and pack snacks and a picnic lunch to enjoy at scenic rest stops along the way.  Hikers will meet at the trailhead off Highway 82 onto Forest Service Road 125 at 9:00, or at 8:30 in Buena Vista at the public parking area by the river on the east end of East Main Street.
Please contact AHRA at 719-539-7289 by noon on March 9 to register for the hike.  The hike is free and no parks pass is required.  Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash.
