Black-tailed Prairie Dog

Statewide survey of Black-tailed Prairie Dog distribution and status

Led by the Wildlife Conservation Section of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife in cooperation with Colorado State University and technical advice from Mammals Research

Fixed-winged aerial surveys of the eastern Colorado prairie were conducted using a statistically valid design to estimate distribution and relative status of black-tailed prairie dog colonies during 2006-07. This effort was part of an overall CPW contribution to assessing the potential classification of black-tailed prairie dogs as an endangered species within Colorado.
