Volunteering on the Trail Crew

Volunteering at Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Many of our volunteers started out with a simple passion for the outdoors. That love and willingness is all it takes to become a steward or advocate for the park.

New volunteers are an important source of fresh ideas and renewed energy. As a community, volunteers are the strength and energy that push the park to reach greater goals. They drive our education programs, maintain trails, record wildlife, and many other aspects that make Cheyenne Mountain State Park such a special place.

Opportunities

For those who love to get their hands dirty - there is trail work, weed warriors and gardening opportunities. Those with outgoing personalities may prefer the Visitor Center, entrance gate, special events or even becoming a Friends of CMSP board member! Many people find they have a special skill set or knowledge to share with kids that could spark a new generation of stewards.

There are many opportunities to contribute and all are important.

Let the volunteers speak for themselves in the above video as they recount memorable experiences and share why they chose to become a volunteer. If any of that sounds worthwhile to you, then consider joining our team!

What is the time commitment?

Visitor Center Attendants

It is entirely your choice as to how often you’d like to volunteer. Some prefer volunteering occasionally at special events – coordinating a craft table, guiding a hike, or directing traffic etc. While others find themselves here quite often, depending on the different opportunities they partake in. All roles undergo a training process to ensure you hit the ground running – with a helping hand never far away. Prior experience is not necessary.

What are the benefits?

In addition to the unique and rewarding experiences, volunteers are invited to annual events throughout the year to celebrate their efforts.

Also, volunteers who contribute 48hrs in a year are awarded a State Park pass! They are hang-tags that are assigned to the volunteer, valid in any vehicle with any other passengers so long as both the volunteer and the pass are present.
