Fishing is heating up with anglers reporting good numbers of fish being caught both in the reservoir and below the dam.
Many anglers are having luck (or limiting out on rainbows) at the Inlet/Lot14/Lot16 area, Keystone Cove, and Morrison Cove. Many anglers are having good luck with PowerBait, nightcrawlers, spoons, jigs, and crankbaits.
TAILWATERS FISHING (c/o The Steamboat FlyFisher):
The "tailwater," also known as the upper Yampa, is one of the most productive stretches of river year-round. The dam keeps the flows and water temperature nearly consistent for the entire year. The DOW keeps a close eye on the water and river bank health which makes for incredible fishing.
OCTOBER 12TH, 2017
The Tailwater water is fishing great right now. Getting out early in the morning or late in evenings is a sure way to beat the crowds. We have seen fish rising in the evening to very small caddis or on any overcast or stormy days. Make sure you are fishing 6x fluorocarbon tippet, micro split shot and small indicators as this section is low, clear and spooky this time of year.
