Angler outreach's volunteer angling instructors help with fishing clinics, fishing derbies, and outdoor skill days. The angler outreach program strives to encourage more people, especially families with children and people who’ve never fished before, to fish and enjoy time outdoors.

  • Requirements: Volunteer instructors must have a valid fishing license, attend an angler outreach training, sign up to help with fishing clinics, and pass a background check. Instructors-in-training must attend two clinics before they'll be allowed to formally teach fishing.
  • Time commitment: Fishing clinics are about 4 hours long. To remain in the program, volunteers must participate in at least one clinic/event per year.
  • Best time of year: Opportunities are available year-round depending on the weather and location, including: spin casting, fly fishing, ice fishing clinics, and outdoor skills days.
  • Good for groups? No.
  • Good for one-time volunteering? No. Becoming a successful fishing instructor requires training and regular participation.

"The opportunity to volunteer with so many CPW programs from National Get Outdoor Days, CASA kids, Sportsman's Expo, Wildlife transport, Angler and Hunting outreach programs and many more has made me a better human, father, husband and friend. I have seen the magic in thousands of children's eyes lighting up when catching their first fish ever. I have shared tears of joy with a Veteran (who hasn't been fishing since they were a kid) while reeling in "Walter" the Lehow Legend catfish as they remember the pure joy of fishing. I have five kids, work full time and I wish I could find more time to volunteer. It doesn't hurt that you also get to participate in the fun as well! Volunteering with CPW is a blast and will change you as a person in the absolute best ways imaginable."
