Schools and Outdoor Learning Environments (SOLE)

Colorado Parks and Wildlife's Schools and Outdoor Learning Environments (SOLE) program began in 2013 as a pilot program funded by Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) with one simple mission:

Connect kids and their families to the outdoors!

Since 2013, the program has expanded across Colorado to 53 elementary schools. Schools were added to the program in partnership with the GOCO School Yard Initiative Grant Program and through recommendations by CPW field staff. As of 2020, SOLE is no longer accepting new schools into the program.

Volunteer with SOLE!

If you are interested in engaging students and families with the goal of connecting them to the outdoors this could be a perfect opportunity for you! The benefits of volunteering with SOLE include:

  • Helping connect schools, students and their families to the outdoors.
  • Supporting your local community.
  • Training for managing activities at Family Nature Night events including backyard bass, trivia, generation wild and the welcome table.
  • Joining the Colorado Parks and Wildlife network!
