An accessible vault toilet is located at the entrance to the park, and thre are two more vault toilets in the campground.
Great birding opportunities are currently available at San Luis Lake and at the State Wildlife area which is now open. There are many shorebirds in the area, in addition to many other species.
Dogs are welcome in the state wildlife area as long as:
they are on a six foot or shorter leash at all times
their waste is properly disposed of
Fishing is allowed. Boat ramp will open for boat fishing this summer if water level is high enough.
Hunting of big game, waterfowl and small game is permitted in the wildlife area north of San Luis Lake when in season.
Refer to to the CPW hunting regulations brochures for current possession limits and information on special restrictions, regulations and hunting seasons.
The wildlife area is closed from Feb. 15 until July 15 annually.
The Needles Picnic Area is located at the boat ramp and has restroom facilities. Originally designed for individual family use, the area is also popular with groups. Additional picnic sites are located along the western shore of San Luis Lake.
For the past few years San Luis Lake has been dry and no water to fill the lake is in the foreseeable future.
The campground will open May 1st. The campground has electric sites, but beginning in 2017, please BRING YOUR OWN WATER, ICE, AND FIREWOOD. Showers will no longer be available on the park. To make reservations for a campsite, go to reserveamerica.com. Reservable dates are May 15-July 15.
The wildlife area is closed annually from February 15 until July 15, for waterfowl nesting. This includes trail closure through the area.
