ATTENTION: San Luis changed from a state park to a state wildlife area on May 1, 2017.
What does this mean for camping?
CPW is no longer accepting reservations as the rules for camping have changed. Camping sites in the campground are now walk-in only (first come, first served).
For the 2018 camping season campers will need to plan to bring their own potable water, ice, and firewood.
CPW provides free electrical hook-ups at some sites and will continue to do so until costs become prohibitive. Please be judicious in your use of electricity so that we can continue to provide this service for no additional cost.
What does this mean for access?
The entire property is now a SWA, therefore public access is prohibited north of the east-west dividing fence and buoy line (these are inline with one another) during the nesting season Feb 15 to July 15.
SWA lands are paid for by sportsmen and managed under state law by Colorado Parks and Wildlife employees for the benefit of wildlife.
Please call the CPW Office at Monte Vista for more information at 719-587-6900.
In the shadow of the Great Sand Dunes National Park is peaceful San Luis State Wildlife Area. Waterfowl, shorebirds, songbirds and raptors fill the sky over this unique desert ecosystem, making San Luis an outstanding watchable wildlife area most of the year.
The wildlife area is located at 16399 Lane 6 N., Mosca, CO, 81146, just 15 minutes west of the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve.
