Big Game Hunting Fees and Requirements are Changing in 2019

With the passage of Senate Bill 18-143​​​, CPW is able to adjust pricing to meet the pressures of increased management costs and resource usage across the state. These adjustments allow us to continue our​ conservation mission, while making sure we are transparent and accountable as we work to achieve the ten key goals laid ou​t in the bill. ​​​​​​​​​​​​

Plan Ahead For Applying in 2019

Limited license big game applications will open March 1st, 2019.

The Limited license big game application deadline will be April 2nd, 2019. All application corrections must be submitted by April 2nd, 2019.

Paperless Limited License Applications

All resident and nonresident applications for all big game (including bighorn sheep, goat and moose) and turkey will only be accepted online​​ or by phone: 1-800-244-5613.​​

​Leftover Big Game & Reissued 

Purchase leftover licenses online, by phone at 1-800-244-5613 or at CPW locations and license agents.​​​​​​​​​​​

Eligible returned licenses will be reissued through the leftover license process.

​The Reissue Process

  1. ​The reissue of big game limited licenses began on August 14, 2018.

  2. All returned licenses that take 4 or less preference points in the current years' draw will be available for purchase the week after processing is complete.

  3. Hunt codes are randomly put on the current leftover and leftover OTC with cap lists Tuesday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM MDT.​​ ​​

Habitat Stamp

Habitat stamp Anyone aged 18 through 64 must buy a habitat stamp in order to buy or apply for a hunting or fishing license. Read more.

Big Game Harvest Survey

Big Game Harvest Survey

​Each year from October through mid-February, the CPW contracts with an outside firm to collect hunt and harvest ​information from deer, elk and pronghorn hunters. Individual hunters are asked a series of questions related to their experience.

Not all hunters are eligible to take the survey. Only those hunters who have been randomly selected and notified by the CPW are eligible.​
