Owl in a tree

We are currently recruiting volunteers!

Our volunteers are instrumental to monitoring the significant features within our parks. Raptor volunteering requires dedication, identification skills, consistent and keen observation skills in all types of weather and basic proficiency with computers and email.

We are currently recruiting volunteers, but please let us know if you are interested and what part of the state you are in.

Current Volunteers:

Nesting Season:

  • Locate nests and record GPS locations.
  • Visit nests bi-weekly according to species schedule.
  • Record species, behavior and activities in an excel spreadsheet.

Winter Monitoring:

  • Visit pre-determined winter monitoring points bi-weekly.
  • Record species, behavior and activities in an excel spreadsheet.

More responsibilities are coming soon:

  • We are at over 20 parks and will expand to new parks based on volunteer interest!
  • We always need help compiling observational data and performing data entry.
  • If experienced, we need to do some owl surveys and goshawk surveys.
Please contact dnr_cpwresourcestewardship@state.co.us if you wish to volunteer!
