​​​​​​​​​​Bowhunter in the Fall

Bowhunter education is an optional class offered to hunters to continue their education in-addition to the required standard Colorado hunter education course, and covers archery equipment, proper use of tree stands and hunting techniques specific to bowhunting.

Bowhunter Education Card Information​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

  • Bowhunter education is not offered in all parts of the state.​​ 
  • A bowhunter education card is a separate certification from a firearms hunter education card. 

What type of license can I purchase with a bowhunter education card? 

  • A bowhunter education card can only be used to purchase archery licenses, and licenses where the method of take is not specified, such as small game or turkey. 
  • A firearms hunter education card can be used to purchase both rifle and archery licenses in Colorado.

​In-Classroom Bowhunter Education

Hunters in Colorado have the option of taking bowhunter education in a standard in-person classroom setting​, or as a two part online ​bowhunter ​course + conclusion class​ (see below).

Online Bowhunter Education and Conclusion Course 

A portion of this course is completed online at your convenience, followed by a required conclusion class which will provide valuable, in-person instruction on bowhunting skills. 

Conclusion classes are offered on a very limited basis mainly along the Front Range and may not be available in all parts of Colorado, so be sure to pre-register for a Bowhunter Ed Conclusion Course before beginning the online Colorado Bowhunter Education Course​

Online and conclusion course registration details: 

  • The cost of the online course is $30. 
  • Additional fees of up to $10 for the required in-classroom conclusion course. 
  • Certificate of completion is required to attend the in-person portion of Bowhunter Education. 

​In-classroom conclusion class sessions will include: ​

  • ​4-6 hours of class time (may be split into 2 days) 
  • hands-on exercises 
  • blood trailing
