Office & Parks Winter Weather Closures

Due to expected extreme weather conditions, Denver Colorado Parks and Wildlife Headquarters (including the Call Center), Northeast Region and Littleton Offices, are closing at noon Friday, Nov. 8. Castlewood Canyon State Park is closed. Cherry Creek, Chatfield and Barr Lake Park visitor centers are closed.

These state or privately owned lands offer state-managed, wildlife-related recreation to the public. While most activities focus on hunting and fishing, each SWA has different allowed activities based on location and available resources.

State Trust Land Finder


State Land Board owns 2.8 million acres of​ State Trust Lands. Through the State Trust Lands Hunting and Fishing Access Program​, a lease agreement between the State Land Board and Colorado Parks & Wildlife, some of these are available for hunting and fishing. Signs at individual properties describe allowed uses, rules and time frames for use.

These include a new category of fishable waters that our talented team of fish management biologists identified and nominated based on their fish sampling records, creel surveys, and professional biological assessments. Waters are below the threshold to be considered Gold Medal, but t​hey are recognized because of their fantastic and diverse fisheries.

Colorado's Boatable Waters range from the 150-mile-long Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area to small mountain lakes and large reservoirs. The Google map shows non-motorized, electric and gasoline powered boating access. Clicking on a point will give associated property information including: boat ramps, aquatic nuisance species inspections, fish species stocked, fish species present and elevation and acreage. Note: To find a State Park lake or reservoir, use the Park Finder.
