General Provisions, Rules, and Descriptions
The following State Trust Lands are Youth/Mentor Hunting only. Youth/mentor hunting means hunting by youths under 18. Youth hunters under 16 must be accompanied by a mentor when hunting on youth/mentor properties. Mentors must be at least 18 and comply with hunter education requirements.
Please read descriptions for each STL thoroughly as the regulations is not the same for all.
The property descriptions and restrictions, below, are as up-to-date as possible, but are provided here in shortened form. You should, therefore, review the State Recreation Lands Brochure (Folleto de tierras recreativas del estado de Colorado). It is a good idea to contact the property's local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office (included with the property description) to learn of any late changes or temporary restrictions.
Beddows Mountain - Custer County
GMU/Acres: 86, 691 / 500 acres
Open: first day of archery deer and elk season through May 31
Hunting: deer, elk, bear, lion, turkey, rabbit, squirrel
Restrictions:
Rifle hunting restricted to youth mentor hunting only. Mentors cannot use rifles.
All hunting except youth mentor hunting is restricted to bows, muzzleloaders or shotguns.
Parking prohibited on Hwy. 69.
Shooting prohibited within 500 feet of Hwy. 69 and man-made structures.
Coal Bank Gulch STL - Routt County
GMU/Acres: 441 / 879 acres
Open: from first day of archery deer and elk season through the end of February
Hunting: elk, deer, mountain sharp-tailed grouse
Restrictions:
Hunting with archery, muzzleloaders, shotguns firing single slug and rimfire rifles only
Only youth/mentor hunting allowed, only one mentor per youth may hunt. Mentor must be age 18 or older and hold a valid hunter education certificate or be born before January 1, 1949, and have a proper and valid hunting or fishing license.
Fly Gulch STL - Routt County
GMU/Acres: 214 / 460 acres
Open: September 1–end of February
Hunting: deer, elk, small game.
