Chaffee County Road 300 (CR300) provides access to the Arkansas River, the Browns Canyon National Monument, and to the Ruby Mountain Campground. Additionally, commercial rafting companies use this road for a boat launch during the white-water rafting season. The existing typical width of CR 300 is 17-22 feet, except for a short narrow 12-foot section (“the Narrows”) located at the crest of a vertical curve in the middle of a horizontal curve approximately 1/4 mile north of the Brown's Canyon Campground. The scope of this project is to widen the 0.10 miles of the existing roadway to a consistent 22-foot-wide gravel surface and provide geometry and sight distance improvements along the project corridor. Construction is tentatively scheduled fo begin after Labor Day 2024, and will require some road closures and temporary closure of the Campground. Contractor selection is currently underway; following selection of the contractor and approval of the construction schedule, additional information regarding restrictions on CR 300, and construction information, will be made available.
