Mule DeerThere are over 40 mammal species throughout the park including eastern cottontail rabbit, coyote, beaver, muskrat, raccoon, weasel and ground squirrel.

Visitors might see white-tailed deer and scampering black-tailed prairie dogs. Though dependent on season, dawn and dusk are usually the best times for viewing wildlife. Visitors might spot the plains garter or western hognose snake. The common bullsnake is sometimes mistaken for the rattlesnake, both of whom are also present at Cherry Creek.

Amphibians at the park include Woodhouse’s toad, striped chorus frog, plains leopard frog and bullfrog. Predatory bullfrogs are a non-native species and may contribute to declines in populations of amphibians native to Colorado.
