Hunting is available at Lone Mesa State Park by permit and valid hunting licenses only. Hunters can apply via a google form which will be made available on this website on the home page beginning Tuesday, May 28 at 9 am and close on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 4 pm. (This timeframe corresponds with the results of the primary draw) A live hunting permit draw will be held at Mancos State Park located at 42545 County Road N, Mancos, Colorado at 5 pm on Friday, June 21, 2023. A Zoom link will be provided in June for potential hunters to watch live to see if a permit was obtained. An email and follow up phone calls will also be made.
Hunters must have a valid license for GMU 711 first in order to apply for a permit to hunt Lone Mesa State Park. The only exception to this is for 2nd or 3rd rifle season where hunters can purchase an over-the-counter antlered elk license. Hunters will be required to enter their limited license hunt code in the application. The application will be simple but if you need assistance please contact Mancos State Park at 970-533-7065 or Debra at Navajo State Park at 970-883-2208 for assistance. For clarification, below is a list of what constitudes a valid license. The license must be for GMU 711 and must not be for private land.
ARCHERY SEASON: Regulation #710 does not specify a species for Archery season. For Archery season, we may issue a Lone Mesa HUP to a hunter as long as the hunter holds one of the big game licenses listed below that is valid for GMU 711:
- A archery limited antlered (buck) deer license
- A archery limited antlered (bull), or antlerless (cow), or either sex elk license
- A archery limited bear either sex license
MUZLELOADER SEASON: Regulation #710 does not specify a species for Muzzleloader season. For Muzzleloader season, we may issue a Lone Mesa HUP to a hunter as long as the hunter holds one of the big game licenses listed below that is valid for GMU 711:
- A muzzleloader limited antlered (buck) deer license
- A muzzleloader limited antlered (bull) or antlerless (cow) elk license
- A muzzleloader limited bear either sex license
SEPTEMBER RIFLE BEAR SEASON: Regulation #710 does not list the September Bear Rifle Season as one of the big game seasons, so we may NOT issue any HUPs to hunters holding a September Rifle Bear season license.
1ST RIFLE SEASON: Regulation #710 specifies this as separate elk rifle season. We may issue a Lone Mesa HUP to a hunter as long as the hunter holds a 1st rifle season limited antlered (bull) or antlerless (cow) elk license valid in GMU 711.
2ND RIFLE SEASON: Regulation #710 specifies this as combined deer/elk rifle season. We may issue a Lone Mesa HUP to a hunter as long as the hunter holds one of the big game licenses listed below that is valid for GMU 711:
- A 2nd rifle limited antlered (buck) deer license
- A 2nd rifle limited antlerless (cow) elk license
- A 2nd rifle over-the-counter antlered (bull) elk license
3RD RIFLE SEASON: Regulation #710 specifies this as combined deer/elk rifle season. We may issue a Lone Mesa HUP to a hunter as long as the hunter holds one of the big game licenses listed below that is valid for GMU 711:
- A 3rd rifle limited antlered (buck) deer license
- A 3rd rifle limited antlerless (cow) elk license
- A 3rd rifle over-the-counter antlered (bull) elk license
4TH RIFLE ELK SEASON: Regulation #710 specifies this as combined deer/elk rifle season. We may issue a Lone Mesa HUP to a hunter as long as the hunter holds one of the big game licenses listed below that is valid for GMU 711:
- A 4th rifle limited antlered (buck) deer license
- A 4th rifle limited antlered (bull) or antlerless (cow) elk license
