Roxborough State Park Recruits Volunteer Naturalists!

 Volunteer Naturalists

Become a Volunteer Naturalist at Roxborough State Park and enjoy the unique beauty of the park as you share it with others. If you are interested in becoming a Volunteer Naturalist please sign up to attend one of our open houses for prospective volunteers to find out more about the program and talk with staff and other volunteers.

Upcoming Open Houses

The next New Volunteer Openhouse will be in 2023. We have selected our group for the class of 2021.

2021 Training Opportunities

Training for 2021 will begin in April. The next training to become a Volunteer Naturalist will not happen until 2023.

Prospective volunteers must be at least 18 years old, be available Tuesday-Saturday, and enjoy working with children in the outdoors. This is your opportunity to become a valued Volunteer Naturalist for Roxborough State Park. The next training will not be until 2023!

Because of COVID restrictions, we can onlytake 14 total new recruits.

  • There will be two training dates each week with 7 recruits each.
  • Training will start April 28 and go through May 20.
  • Training is from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and all dates are required to graduate and become a Volunteer Naturalist for the park.

Because of COVID restrictions there is a restructuring of the school program logistics part of the training.

  • These additional trainings will start the first week of May and will be on the opposite day of your initial training.
    • For example if you have training on Wednesday, you will attend school logistics training on Thursday and vice versa.
  • This training will be from 9am-1pm.

This class is full for 2021! Look here for future dates.

About Volunteer Naturalists

The Volunteer Naturalist program at Roxborough State Park has been in existence for over 35 years. This skilled group is involved in just about every aspect of the park and is essential in accomplishing the mission of Roxborough and Colorado Parks & Wildlife. Come join the team!

Our naturalists offer a wealth of knowledge, contagious enthusiasm, and true passion for our park. Join them on guided hikes or stop and talk with them while they are hiking the trails, and get your questions answered. When they aren’t helping the visitors, they are working hard on monitoring and improving the park itself.

The Park needs constant upkeep, which is why we have volunteers come out during the summer and work on trail improvement, corridor clearing, and invasive weed removal. Throughout the summer both of these activities are up for grabs to participants from our group of Volunteer Naturalists as well as anyone else willing to help out in the public. Call 303 973-3959 for more information.

Roxborough State Park is a treasured resource and home to a unique diversity of plants and animals. The Park is designated a State Natural Area a National Natural Landmark and a National Archaeological District.
