LAKE CITY, Colo. – Starting Friday, May 27, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will begin boat inspections at Lake San Cristobal near Lake City.

Inspections help protect against the introduction of Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS). The new inspection site at the Lake San Cristobal boat ramp will operate daily from sunrise to sunset, and a mobile decontamination unit will be on site if needed.

“Inspections are free and help ensure the health of Lake San Cristobal and the aquatic ecosystems it is connected to,” said CPW District Wildlife Manager Lucas Martin. “These inspections will also help protect against the introduction of ANS into the Lake Fork of the Gunnison watershed, which includes Blue Mesa Reservoir.”

Lake San Cristobal is owned by Hinsdale County. It is the second largest natural lake in Colorado. It is known as a quality trout fishery.

Boaters must be sure their boats are clean, drained and dried before going to the (ANS) inspection station at the lake.

For more information on ANS, review the Boater’s Guide to ANS Inspections.

If the public has any questions about the new inspection station at Lake San Cristobal, please call the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Gunnison Service Center at 970-641-7060.
