Bringing Parks and Wildlife to the Classroom
Colorado Parks and Wildlife provides numerous teacher workshops and programs that can be implemented in the classrooms.
In addition, there are wildlife curriculums, classroom supplies, games, activities, grants and field trips available!
Classroom Curriculum
Preschool Age
Teachers with students in preschool can find wildlife projects and resources to add to their classroom curriculum.
Grades K-5
Teachers with students in grades K-5 can find wildlife projects and resources to add to their classroom curriculum.
Grades 6-8
Teachers with students in grades 6-8 can find wildlife projects and resources to add to their classroom curriculum.
Grades 9-12
Teachers with students in grades 9-12 can find wildlife projects and resources to add to their classroom curriculum.

Colorado Archery in the Schools Program
The Colorado Archery in the Schools Program promotes student interest and skills development in archery by training educators to incorporate archery into Physical Education curriculum.

Tour a local fish hatchery with your students. Some hatcheries offer self-guided tours, while others may have tour guides available during certain times of the year.

River Watch is a statewide community science, volunteer water quality-monitoring network supported by Colorado Parks and Wildlife, other partnerships and capable volunteers. Through this program, students can learn the value and function of rivers, how to collect and use quality chemical, biological and physical data, and be stewards of their rivers, and contribute to making a difference.

Since the pilot, the SOLE program has expanded across Colorado to 53 elementary schools. Unfortunately, as of 2020, SOLE is no longer accepting new schools into the program.

Programs for Teachers
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Teacher Institutes are interagency, site-based, outdoor education programs designed to help teachers explore local resources with their students; all course content is standards-based and hands-on.
Colorado Environmental Education Plan
The State Board of Education adopted a statewide plan for environmental education in partnership with the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. The plan is designed to foster the partnerships and awareness needed to promote, coordinate, and sustain standards-based environmental education across the state.
Advancing Environmental Literacy in Colorado Schools
The Colorado Environmental Education Plan focuses on developing environmental education infrastructure to provide students with time outdoors, teachers with environmental education, and schools with resources that engage students in mastering the Colorado Academic Standards. The Colorado Environmental Leadership Council is a statewide, collaborative body that supports the plan and overall environmental education efforts.
