Cheyenne Mountain invites families to free ‘Star Spangled Kids’ evening event

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Cheyenne Mountain State Park invites families to start the Independence Day celebration a little early by bringing their children to a free “Star Spangled Kids” event the evening of Friday, July 1.

And then stay for the fireworks at Fort Carson.

From 4-8 p.m., park staff will host naturalist programs such as how to make Nature Journals and create Animal Tracks. There will be Wildlife Bingo and instruction in knot-tying. Other exciting activities include archery, fishing for “backyard bass,” a scavenger hunt, face-painting and more.

Park staff also will show kids how to become Junior Rangers and how to sign up for the Cheyenne Mountain State Park Trail Challenge.

This event will take place in the park’s Prairie Skipper Pavillion, where there is plenty of shelter in case of rain.

Check our Facebook Event page for inclement weather updates.

The event ends at 8 p.m. but guests are invited to stay to watch the Fort Carson Freedom Fest fireworks scheduled after dark, likely around 10 p.m.

The Friends of Cheyenne Mountain State Park group will be selling walking tacos as a fundraiser for the park.

No registration is required but parking is limited. The event and activities are free for any guest with a $9 day pass or $80 annual vehicle park pass.
