From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., park staff and volunteers will offer a wide range of activities to park guests involving about every outdoor activity you can imagine. Best of all, it’s all free with your park entrance fee.
Adventure Day is a great opportunity to learn to shoot a bow and arrow, a .22-caliber rifle, and throw a hatchet in a safe environment with trained experts. Learn activities such as orienteering and geocaching, which are great excuses to explore the outdoors while testing your navigation skills with GPS, or just a map and compass.
Those activities and much more are available to try on Adventure Day. Other hands-on activities include bird watching with binoculars, throwing a rope lasso, casting a fishing pole, and knot-tying. There are activities for guests of all ages including a GPS challenge, Skins and Skulls and more.
“Bring the family out to Cheyenne Mountain State Park for an engaging morning full of learning and fun,” said Jason Hagan, park manager. “Adventure Day is a great opportunity to try some hands-on outdoor activities relatively close to Colorado Springs.”
And don’t forget about the prizes! The more activity stations you complete, the better chance you have at winning some great prizes through a raffle drawing.
Raffle prizes include: a tent with sleeping bags, bow with arrows and case, youth fishing pole with tackle kit and chair, inflatable kayak with an amazon gift card for life jackets, and a youth mountain bike with an amazon gift card for a helmet. If you complete all the skill stations, you earn an Adventure Day Race Medal.
All activities will be held at the Limekiln Trailhead in the park. For more information, check out the park Facebook page at facebook.com/CheyenneMountainStatePark
