Arkansas Headwaters First Day Hike 2018

Come enjoy the first day of 2018 with this nationwide First Day Hike of 2018 event! Our guide 3.5 mile hike includes beautiful scenery and lunch at the midway point.

​Lily Pond Twin Lakes Overlook Hike - 3.5 miles round trip on US Forest Service Road, weather and snow conditions permitting. The trail climbs on modest slopes through forested terrain with a number of beautiful open view areas. At the halfway point, we will enjoy the panorama of Mt. Elbert and Twin Lakes and have lunch/snacks before turning around. Hike will be led by AHRA Volunteer Naturalist Bob Hickey. Spectacular mountain and lake scenery with sweeping views of: the upper Arkansas River Valley; the Sawatch Mountains and Mt. Elbert; Mosquito Range; Twin Lakes and Mt. Elbert Forebay. The trail climbs continually via modest slopes and switchbacks, through forested terrain and aspen groves, with stunning viewpoints.
