Ridgway- First Day Hike: Dallas Creek Nature Trail

Take a stroll through open fields with tall cottonwoods, navigate along the shores of Dallas Creek and scramble through Pinion-Juniper forests within the rocky outcroppings of Log Hill Mesa. Catch some spectacular view of Mt. Sneffels and the San Juan range. Walk through the hiding places of many birds and animals and see if you can spot some trout in the creek on our way by! If snow conditions are good, this “hike” can be cross-country skied.
Meet at: Dallas Creek Entrance, Confluence area, parking lot and picnic area furthest south (towards the mountains)
Difficulty: Easy - Moderate
Length: 1 mile
* Hot chocolate and tea will be served at the Visitor Center all day. A campfire with s'mores will be lit around noon. *
What to bring: Bring snacks and water, be prepared for the weather (recommended you dress in layers) and all trail conditions (ice, snow pack, bare, etc.). Bring what you need to feel comfortable hiking in any condition (hiking boots, snow boots, micro-spikes, snowshoes, x-country skies, poles, etc.) Check the Ridgway State Park website for trail condition updates: http://cpw.state.co.us/placestogo/Parks/ridgway

Minimum Age: All First Day Hikes are family oriented; however, this hike involves some inclines and declines, as well as a few large steps that may be difficult for children.
Restrictions: Pets are welcome but must be leashed and cleaned up after.
