Mentored Hunts for Novice Adults

Mentored hunts provide adults with a concise, distraction-free experience to learn how to hunt with other adults. All hunts are free. The program focuses on educating the novice hunter in the field which may or may not result in harvesting an animal during the hunt.

Novice Mentored Hunts for Novice Adults Program

All applicants with hunting experience will be considered for program participation; however, priority will be given to novice participants that meet eligibility requirements. If you have participated in a Colorado Parks and Wildlife Hunter Outreach Program for a specific species.

An adult who meets the following requirements can apply for a mentored hunt:

  • You are a Colorado resident 18 or older
  • You have completed Hunter Education. Apprentice certificates will not be accepted.
  • You meet the definition of a novice hunter: A novice adult hunter is defined as a Colorado resident 18 years of age or older, who has either: no big game license purchase history, only held a big game hunting license(s) in the current or previous year, or has no big game license purchase history in the previous five years.
  • You have attended orientation/range qualification (this will depend on the opportunity offered)

Apply for a Hunt

Participants may be required to complete classroom instruction/range qualification prior to going on a hunt opportunity. Range qualification sessions will typically occur on a weekend in the greater Denver Area. Participants may use a program firearm, however bringing your own or borrowing from family members is highly encouraged.

Spring Turkey Mentored Hunt

This mentored hunt application is open February 12 to February 28. Hunts will occur anytime during the spring turkey hunting season.

Big Game, Small Game, Waterfowl and Fall Turkey Mentored Hunt

This mentored hunt application is open June 1-30 annually. Mentored hunts for big and small game species will typically occur between September and February. There may be limited fall turkey hunting opportunities from year to year.
