COUNCILS AND COMMITTEES

About This Committee

The White River Valley is home to some of the largest elk and mule deer herds in the State of Colorado as well as some small herds of pronghorn and moose. The area supports a vibrant agricultural community in addition to active coal mining and oil and gas development.

The White River Habitat Partnership Program Committee (WRHPP), since its inception in 1993, has worked in cooperation with CPW to significantly reduce the White River Elk herd to within the desired population objective to reduce agricultural conflicts between big game and livestock. Conflicts within the WRHPP area have been greatly reduced. In recent years, the WRHPP committee's focus has been much more proactive on a landscape scale, with habitat improvements designed to assist CPW in achieving deer, elk, pronghorn and moose management objectives.

Get Involved: Sportsperson Representative

The White River Habitat Partnership Program Committee (HPP) is seeking an individual interested in serving as a Sportsperson Representative.

The HPP Program, funded by revenue from the sale of big game licenses, is a collaborative effort that works through
local committees to develop partnerships among land owners, land managers, sportspersons, the public, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). Together, we aim to reduce agricultural conflicts, support conservation efforts on private lands, enhance migratory corridors, and assist CPW in meeting game management objectives.

Meetings are usually scheduled on a quarterly basis in Meeker. To be considered, interested parties must submit their name, contact information, and a statement of interest to Kale Watson by Tuesday February 11, 2025. Applicants must be able to attend the committee meeting on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. at the Meeker Colorado Parks and Wildlife Office (73485 Highway 64 Meeker, CO 81641) for an interview with the Committee.
