Road construction project to impact Castlewood Canyon State Park
FRANKTOWN, Colo. — Colorado Parks and Wildlife will begin a road construction project at Castlewood Canyon State Park affecting the east side of the park. Starting April 7 through May 7, the road work will be done on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. to not impact weekend visitation. During the project, the east entrance road off Highway 83 will be impacted, as well as several parking lots including the Visitor Center lot, Canyon Point, Juniper Rock and the Bridge Canyon Overlook. The west side of Castlewood Canyon will not be affected.
The deteriorated road is in need of repairs and resurfacing. CPW has contracted Asphalt Specialties to provide concrete, milling, paving and striping work to Castlewood Canyon Road and parking lots. Traffic management will direct visitors to open lots during the intermittent work. When paving work begins, the east side of the park will be closed for one day. The closure date will be announced on Castlewood Canyon’s website and Facebook page.Trails will not be impacted during this time. Park visitors can use connecting trails if a parking lot near their desired trailhead is closed. CPW does not anticipate wildlife will be affected by construction. There are no golden eagles or other raptors nesting close to the area.
Residents can enter Castlewood Canyon with the $29 Keep Colorado Wild state parks annual pass. Any visitor can also purchase a $10 daily pass.
