Small portions of Tarryall Reservoir closed to public during construction project

PARK COUNTY, Colo. – Public access to small areas of Tarryall State Wildlife Area will be closed during a construction project to rehabilitate the Tarryall Dam. Starting April 29 through December 31, the parking lot near the intersection of Tarryall Road and Turner Gulch Road on the southeast side of the reservoir will be closed. Fishing downstream of the dam along Tarryall Creek will also be restricted during the project.

There will be no recreation or fishing restrictions to Tarryall Reservoir. Visitors may see increased heavy truck traffic and hear construction noise during this time.

The concrete arch dam, built in 1929, has known structural deficiencies which require maintenance to extend its life expectancy. Construction will protect the dam from erosion, rehabilitate the joints and increase the water storage capacity of the reservoir.

Funding for the project comes from the CPW Wildlife Cash Fund, fueled by hunting and fishing license fees.
