CPW delays opening of Byers Canyon Shooting range for construction

Byers Canyon Shooting Range is located on the Hot Sulphur Springs State Wildlife Area, four miles west of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colo.

HOT SULPHUR SPRINGS, Colo. -  Colorado Parks and Wildlife Hot Sulphur Springs area will begin much needed updates and improvements to Byers Canyon Shooting Range this spring. Work is expected to begin May 1 and last through mid-June. The shooting range will remain closed during this time.

To allow for additional capacity, especially during the busy fall months, wider shooting bays with shooting benches will be added. In addition to a new layout and added capacity, berms will be extended to allow for additional safety.

“The Byers Canyon Shooting Range is very popular with sportspersons from all over the westslope,”  said Jeromy Huntington, CPW Area Wildlife Manager. “We know these much-needed improvements will improve the overall shooting experience and safety of the range. We are also hopeful it will help accommodate the increase in visitors ahead of and during the big-game hunting season.”

Byers Canyon Shooting Range is located west of Hot Sulphur Springs and is closed from Jan. 1 - April 30 to protect wildlife during a crucial time for their survival. To learn more about the shooting range visit our website.
