Cheyenne Mountain State Park to offer unique tent-only group camping site

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Hoping to appeal to large groups camping only in tents, Cheyenne Mountain State Park is unveiling a new tent-only group camping site with 16 tent pads just in time for the summer camping season.

The Turkey Roost Group Tent Campground is located just up the road from the Visitor Center, below the large Prairie Skipper Pavilion, with an unobstructed view of the park’s namesake mountain to the west and city views to the northeast.

It is available now to reserve on the CPW website. It will open on Memorial Day weekend. It rents for $120 per night.

“We’re excited to be able to offer this group tent camping site,” said Mike Ivis, senior ranger at Cheyenne Mountain State Park. “A tent-only group camping site is unique in Colorado. We think it will have a lot of appeal to youth organizations, family get-togethers, school outings and more.”

Turkey Roost offers a variety of amenities including:

  • 16 individual, 10x10 tent pads spaced for privacy

  • Community fire pit with benches for up to 36 people

  • Sheltered picnic area with picnic tables, charcoal grills, and a water hydrant

  • Restrooms with flushing toilets, sinks, electricity and a water bottle fill station

  • Parking Lot with 16 paved parking spaces for passenger vehicles

There are no showers at the site. Showers are available, along with laundry facilities and a playground at the Camper Services building about half a mile up the road.

Each camping pad can accommodate two small tents or one large tent.

“This site is perfect for groups that are ‘tent-only’ camping enthusiasts,” Ivis said. “Travel trailers, RVs, campers and large commercial vehicles will not be allowed on the site or in the 16-space paved parking lot.”
