Talk of changes to CPW’s Big Game Season Structure to highlight SE Region Caucus on July 31

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Changes to the 2025-29 Big Game Season Structure approved recently by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission will highlight discussions at the CPW Southeast Region Sportspersons’ Caucus scheduled for 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 31 at the region headquarters.

Region Manager Frank McGee, other CPW leadership and biologists will outline how the policy changes will impact hunting licenses for deer, elk, pronghorn, moose and black bear.

One significant change limits over-the-counter archery licenses for nonresident hunters while keeping them available for Colorado residents west of Interstate 25 in Game Management Unit 140.

“This change was made to address concerns about overcrowding,” McGee said. ”Over-the-counter licenses offer hunters opportunities even if they didn’t draw a tag that season. But there is concern they attract too many non-residents and crowd out resident hunters. We’ll discuss these changes and others.

“This is why caucus meetings are important to attend. They are key to CPW’s ongoing effort to involve and inform hunters, anglers and all other outdoor enthusiasts about our efforts to manage the state’s wildlife and offer the best recreation opportunities we can at our state parks. We want to make sure their questions and concerns are being answered and addressed.”

The Sportspersons’ Caucus is scheduled at 6 p.m., Wednesday, July.31, at CPW’s Southeast Region offices in Colorado Springs and online, broadcast live via a Zoom webinar.

The caucus will be co-hosted by Ron Goodrich and Roger Tucker, the region’s caucus delegates.
