PUEBLO, Colo. – News media are invited to attend the ribbon cutting for the free day-use life jacket stations at Lake Pueblo State Park on Wednesday, July 23,10 a.m. on Sailboard Beach.

The life-saving effort and its on-going support is made possible through partnership and funding from the Cole Mika Fund, the Drennen’s Dreams Foundation with support from Children’s Hospital Colorado. Representatives from each partner organization will speak at the ribbon cutting.

The public-access life jacket stations were placed at Sailboard Beach and South Fishing Beach in late May and play a key role in water recreation safety for visitors. Free day-use life jackets are available in adult, youth and infant sizes. Life jackets are available at all times and should be returned before leaving the park. Park Rangers routinely stock and organize the life jackets.

“Life jackets save lives, and the constant availability of free day-use life jackets for all visitors is an important part of ongoing safety efforts at Lake Pueblo State Park,” said Park Manager Joe Stadterman. “We are thankful for the ongoing partnerships that make this effort possible for our visitors.”

There have been four drownings at Lake Pueblo State Park in 2025 with a commonality that the victims were not wearing life jackets.

News media attending the ribbon cutting should contact Dean Miller, Colorado Parks and Wildlife Southeast Region Public Information Officer at [email protected] or by phone or text at (719) 466-3927. Arrival and parking is via Highway 96, turn onto South Marina Road, take a right turn after the entrance gate on South Fishing Road. Parking is on the right once you get to the beach. Media should plan to arrive by 9:45 a.m.
