About This Ranch

Wolf Mountain Ranch is located about 5.5 miles east of Hayden and north of Hwy 40.

Wolf Mountain Ranch is located in an area where elk herds have been over herd objective. It is now at or approaching objective and cow license levels have been reduced in response. This is a migratory elk herd. The ranch continues its work with CPW to assist in achieving herd objectives. Since elk do not always remain on the ranch and harvest levels off the ranch are high, the size of bulls available to hunters should not be considered "trophy" class.

Terrain

The ranch is located in the rolling sagebrush hills that are the lower slopes of the Elkhead Mountains. Additional terrain includes oakbrush, mountain shrub, aspen, and some dark timber.

Access

Ranch roads provide adequate access to main parts of the ranch. These roads can become very muddy during wet weather. ATVs are allowed off-road only for game retrieval. Horses and snowmobiles are not allowed.

Ranching for Wildlife (RFW)

This property is part of the Ranching for Wildlife program. The Ranching for Wildlife program provides Colorado residents a unique opportunity to hunt on private ranch land normally closed to the public. Participating ranches provide public hunting recreation access to their land free of charge to those who draw licenses.

Through this program, hunters can play an important role in helping CPW and landowners manage wildlife populations on private land. In addition to providing public hunting access to successful applicants, participating landowners are required to improve habitat on their ranch for both game and non-game animals. These efforts help preserve and enhance open spaces for wildlife to live and thrive and keep the hunting heritage alive for you and future generations.
