When left to roam, pets may look like prey to hunting wildlife. Since wildlife have also been known to enter yards, pets may not be safe even inside a fenced area.  In addition, wildlife see dogs as predators, and can be extremely protective if they have young with them or nearby.  Conflicts often lead to the death of wildlife.  

Forest pests such as beetles, fungi, and pathogens threaten millions of trees in the United States. Most of these pests originally arrived from foreign countries on commercial vessels carrying wooden pallets and crates containing the invasive pests.
