What to Do at Rifle Falls

Rifle Falls is famous for its lush greenery and stunning waterfalls, which attract photographers and movie crews from around the country. The triple waterfall keeps the area green and is perfect for picnics. Behind the falls there are limestone caves to explore. Summer is a busy time, and parking can be limited.

Explore Nature at Rifle Falls

The park's main attraction is its waterfall and dark caves. Visitors have many opportunities to watch wildlife and can tour the Rifle Falls Fish Hatchery.

Ten individual picnic sites are located throughout the park. Each is close to waterfalls, short hiking trails and watchable wildlife kiosks.

Fishing

Rainbow, brown and cutthroat trout are found in East Rifle Creek, which flows through Rifle Falls. Fish up to 19 inches long have been taken, with six- to nine-inch fish being the average.

Rifle Falls has 13 drive-in and seven walk-in campsites that sit to the south along East Rifle Creek.

Hiking

Trails

Three hiking trails meander through the park, providing access up to and above the falls, along East Rifle Creek and to the fish hatchery. Dogs are not permitted in the adjacent state wildlife area.

    Activities

    National Forest Land

    Rifle Falls is close to National Forest Land, offering park visitors more activity opportunities. 

      Bikers are encouraged to use trails in Rifle Mountain Park​ and on nearby US Forest Service property.

      The closest groomed snowmobile trails are at the Rifle Creek Trailhead in Rifle Mountain Park. From there, riders will travel onto the White River National Forest​. This trailhead is approximately 5 miles from Rifle Falls State Park.

      Cross-country skiers can access US Forest Service property from Rifle Creek Trailhead in Rifle Mountain Park​.

      Big-game hunting is excellent in the White River National Forest​ and on lands administered by the US Bureau of Land Management, which are next to the park. Rifle Falls serves as a basecamp for hunters using these lands.
