About this Event

Join us for our guided hike to the top of Cheyenne Mountain via the Dixon Trail! Volunteer naturalist, Ranger Rick, leads this 17 mile out-and-back hike that will take you through three different ecozones to an elevation of 9,300 feet, logging about 3,500 feet of elevation to get there. This hike is weather and trail conditions permitting and limited to 20 participants. It is recommended for ages 14 and up; children under 18 MUST be accompanied by an adult. NOTE: The Dixon Trail is rated as a Double Black Diamond hiking trail with a climb rating of Advanced to Extreme due to switch-backing and steep climbs among large rock outcroppings, particularly toward the top. Average grade is 11% with a max grade of 41%. A good awareness of your physical fitness level, joint health, and acclimation to high altitude is very important to successfully completing this hike. This is a ROUND TRIP hike with no available pickup locations and camping is NOT permitted. Additionally, dogs are NOT allowed on the hike. Proper hiking footwear, layering, and hiking poles are highly recommended. Bring plenty of water and food. The hike will commence at 6:30 AM sharp. All participants must be ready to start hiking at that time as there will be no delay to wait for participants who arrive late. Register on CPW Connect. You will be notified in the case of any changes or cancellations. Free event, park pass required.
