Guides and Outfitters in Colorado

Guides and outfitters must be registered, bonded and insured to operate in Colorado. They also need permits to operate on public land and must register with the Office of Outfitter Registration.

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​All river guides operating in Colorado are required to first obtain a river outfitter license from Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

Commercial use of Colorado state parks requires a permit. Rock climbing guides and instructors operating in Colorado state parks must be certified or work for an accredited organization.

Fishing

Fishing guides and outfitters who use state parks and lands for commercially guided fishing or recreation activities are required to purchase a special-use permit each year.

Hunter Outreach Volunteers are mentors that are essential to the Hunter Outreach Program's mission of promoting and teaching safe, ethical, and responsible hunting to those who have never hunted or have limited hunting experience. Such an ambitious endeavor could not succeed without the outdoor knowledge and love of wildlife brought by experienced hunters from all across Colorado.

Volunteer

Colorado Parks and Wildlife offers many volunteer opportunities for those who love working in the outdoors. 

When you volunteer with CPW, you can give back, get outside, meet people, and make friends. Volunteers serve in a variety of roles, such as camp hosting, education and outreach, community science, habitat and trail work, maintenance and construction, wildlife projects, customer service, and much more!

Opportunities at state parks, wildlife areas, fish hatcheries, offices, and with educational programs vary by season and by region.
