MONTE VISTA, Colo. – Colorado Parks and Wildlife and the Piedra Bowhunters will host an event at 9 a.m. Aug. 6 at the recently completed archery range at the Shriver & Wright State Wildlife Area near Monte Vista.

The public is invited to attend to check out the new archery range and interact with fellow members of the bowhunting community and CPW staff.

“We are excited for people to come out and try archery or for experienced archers to get fine tuned before hunting season,” said CPW District Wildlife Manager Tyler Cerny. “The addition of this archery range to the State Wildlife Area property is something we are eager to share with the public.”

The archery range features a sight-in range with six targets from 20 to 60 yards. A 1-mile path presents an additional 10 shooting stations featuring 3D animal targets such as elk, deer and even a giant mosquito.

A bridge over the Rio Grande River return canal was installed on the property in 2021 to connect an additional 30 acres of the property for public use. The archery range walking path is relatively flat and easily accessible.

Shriver & Wright SWA is a 120-acre property in Rio Grande County. For more information, call the Monte Vista CPW office at 719-587-6900.
