Highline Lake has been drained, therefore there is no boating and the lake is NOT OPEN to Waterfowl hunting until Fall 2025. The park is planning to refill the lake Spring 2025. The remaining water is open to fishing as a salvage operation. All limits and size restrictions are lifted. A valid fishing license is still required. All limits and size restrictions still apply to Mack Mesa Lake.

Whether you are an avid hiker, mountain biker or hunter, or you simply appreciate all the Colorado outdoors has to offer, there are many ways you can get involved. Colorado state parks have a variety of employment and volunteer opportunities. Jobs include naturalists and maintenance and administrative work, and range from full to part time and temporary. Volunteer opportunities include wildlife monitoring and campground host. Check out the opportunities below for more information.

Volunteer

Campground Host

Campground Host

Campground hosts are responsible for checking campers in and out of their campsites, answering visitor questions, stocking the bathroom, selling firewood and ice, monitoring the campground and assisting with fee collection.

Naturalist

Naturalist

Specific responsibilities may include: Schedule, plan and present Junior Ranger, school and group programs; schedule, plan and present campfire programs, guided hikes and outreach programs. Work with groups of volunteers and more.

Trail Ambassador

Trail Ambassador

Walk, bike or run the 9+ miles of trails at Highline Lake, circling the lake itself, or taking one of the interesting loops. Help keep the trail system clean by cleaning up trash along the way, and contact the Visitor Center or a Park Ranger if there is something that needs our attention.

Visitor Services

Visitor Services

Assist visitors in Highline Lake State Park's Visitor Center by sharing information; selling passes, registrations, firewood, and retail merchandise; answering telephones; monitoring radio communications; data entry; and more.

The Friends of Highline Lake State Park support conservation, encourage environmental education and enhance recreation opportunities for visitors of the park.
