Yampa State Park
Visit River Sites Near Hayden and Steamboat Springs
Along the Yampa River, Hayden Pump Station, Yampa River State Park Headquarters, and State Wildlife Area sites are the closest to the towns of Hayden and Steamboat Springs. All three sites have between class I and V rapids, depending on the time of year. Only the Park Headquarters offers camping.

Yampa State Park
Site 1 - Hayden Pump Station
Located approximately five miles east of Hayden on U.S. Highway 40 on the north side of the highway.
- Boat Ramp: Developed boat launch
- River Flow Class: between Class I and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
- Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.
- Nearest Take Out: 11 miles downstream.
CAUTION: A water diversion exists downstream between Hayden Pump Station and Yampa River State Park Headquarters (just before the Headquarters access). There is a boat chute on the right side of the diversion.

- Respect wildlife: This section of the river features lots of nesting birds.
- Small area: large vehicles are not recommended.
- Private land:
- The Public Service Company water intake structure is located next to the access site. Please do not trespass on the Public Service Company’s intake structure property.
- Public land downstream is limited, so be aware of private property and bring a map.

Site 2 - Yampa River State Park Headquarters
2 miles west of Hayden off Highway 40 on the south side of the highway.
- Distance from Previous Site: 13 miles
- Boat Ramp:
- River Flow Class: between Class I-II and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
- Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.

Visitor Center
The Visitor Center is located at the Headquarters campground near Hayden, Colorado. The Visitor Center provides visitor and traveler information as well as maps and other printed resources. The display area emphasizing Native American history, agricultural heritage, and river ecology will captivate visitors young and old alike. A small store with books, clothing, and miscellaneous supplies will help outfit visitors for their stay.

Camping
The Headquarters campground has 35 electric RV sites, 14 basic tent-only sites, 2 tipi sites, and 5 group sites. Reservations can be made online, or by calling 1-800-244-5613.

YAMPA RIVER
Group and Event Space
Yampa River State Park Headquarters campground has a group picnic area, and a conference room available for rent.
Yampa River State Park is a beautiful place to have your wedding. There are many areas to choose from in the park including our group picnic area, group campgrounds, and conference room, but the most popular are the sites located near the beautiful Yampa River.

Site 3 - State Wildlife Area
Located halfway between Hayden and Craig. The access road is south of U.S. Highway 40, near a small metal railroad building called Dorsey.

- Boat Ramp: None.
- River Flow Class: between Class I-II and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
- Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.
