Yampa State Park
About Sunbeam, East Cross Mountain, West Cross Mountain, and Deerlodge Creek
Along the Yampa River, Sunbeam, East Cross Mountain, West Cross Mountain, and Deerlodge Creek are the closest sites to the town of Maybell. All four sites have between class I and V rapids, depending on the time of year. Only East Cross Mountain offers camping.

Yampa State Park
Site 10 - Sunbeam
Located approximately seven miles northwest of Maybell. Take U.S. Highway 40 out of Maybell to State Highway 318. Drive six miles to Moffat County Road 23 which leads to the access site.

- Boat Ramp: Undeveloped boat ramp
- River Flow Class: between Class I and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
- Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.
- Nearest Take Out: 12 miles

More Information on Sunbeam
Sunbeam does not have any primitive camping sites. It does however have two day use area pads with a picnic table on each. There is a trail to the water serving as a boat ramp to allow river access.
You are required to have a day pass to use this area.
Yampa State Park
Site 11 - East Cross Mountain
Located approximately 18 miles southwest of Maybell. Take U.S. Highway 40 west of Maybell about 13.6 miles to Moffat County Road 85. Drive north on Moffat County Road 85 to the Bureau of Land Management Road 1551 and then 1.5 miles to the site.

- Boat Ramp: Undeveloped boat ramp
- River Flow Class: between Class I and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
- Float Skill Level: Advanced.
- Nearest Take Out: 4 miles
CAUTION: Roads may be rough leading to the site. Class V rapids exist in the Cross Mountain Canyon.

Camping at East Cross Mountain
East Cross only has two primitive camping sites, both with fire rings and picnic tables, but no shade shelters. It also has three day use area pads all with a fire ring, grill and a picnic table.
You are required to have a day pass to use this area. If you camp, it is first come, first served, and you need to purchase the parks pass along with the onsite nightly camping passes (same as if you were in a reservation only campground, both passes are required). Camping permits can be purchased on-site from the self-kiosk.
Yampa State Park
Sites 12 and 13 - West Cross Mountain and Deerlodge Park
Located between Cross Mountain Canyon and Dinosaur National Monument.
- Distance from Previous Site: West Cross Mountain is 4 miles from East Cross Mountain, and Deerlodge Park is 9 miles from West Cross Mountain.
- Boat Ramp: None.
- River Flow Class: between Class I and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
- Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.
- Nearest Take Out: Boaters who pass Deerlodge Park must have a permit to float on the Yampa River through Dinosaur National Monument.
Both access sites are managed by the National Park Service.

Camping at Deerlodge Park
Camping at Deerlodge Park is managed by the National Park Service. It has seven shady sites suitable for tents. The sites have tables and fire pits. There is drinking water and vault toilets available seasonally, but no showers.
Deerlodge Park Campground is open year-round, but winter access can be very difficult due to snow. When the Yampa River exceeds an 18,000 cfs flow rate, the campground will flood.
