Yampa State Park

About Yampa Valley Golf Course, Loudy Simpson Park, and South Beach

Along the Yampa River, Yampa Valley Golf Course, Loudy Simpson Park, and South Beach are the closest sites to the town of Craig. All three sites have between class I and V rapids, depending on the time of year. Only Loudy Simpson Park offers camping.

    Site 4 - Yampa Valley Golf Course

    Located south of Craig on Colorado State Highway 394 near the airport. 

    • Distance from Previous Site: 10 miles
    • Boat Ramp: Undeveloped Boat Ramp
    • River Flow Class: between Class I and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
    • Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.
    • Nearest Take Out:

    Site 5 - Moffat County’s Loudy Simpson Park

    Located on Colorado State Highway 394 south of Craig at the developed ball field complex. 

    • Distance from Previous Site: 3.5 miles
    • Boat Ramp: Undeveloped Boat Launch
    • River Flow Class: between Class I and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
    • Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.
    • Nearest Take Out: 

    Moffat County owns this site. Please contact Moffat County with questions or to request permission to camp.

    Site 6 - South Beach / Yampa Project Pump Station

    Located approximately three miles south of Craig on Colorado State Highway 13.

    • Distance from Previous Site: 5.5 miles
    • Boat Ramp: Access from the west parking lot.
    • River Flow Class: between Class I and Class V rapids, depending on the time of year.
    • Float Skill Level: Beginner, Novice, or Advanced.
    • Nearest Take Out: 32 miles to the next take-out at Duffy Mountain.

      • To protect natural resources, the wooded area northeast of the pump station is open to foot traffic only. 
      • The access road to the large parking lot belongs to Tri-State and Trapper Mining Inc. 
      • The water intake channel is open to fishing, but boat launching is prohibited.
      • The downstream access is by boat only, so any vehicle use is extremely limited to access from private property or a few roads across the Bureau of Land Management Land.
