Colorado River Emergency Closure

Effective immediately, Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has issued an emergency closure for all public access and downstream recreation on the Colorado River starting at James M. Robb-Colorado River State Park in Fruita and extending to the Utah state line.  This closure is necessary for firefighter and public safety due to the Snyder Fire currently burning in McInnis Canyon.  Learn more.

Mountain Lion Hunting Exam

A valid Hunting License with a Mountain Lion Certification on it and a Hunter Education Certification are required to hunt mountain lions in Colorado.

If you do not already have a CID number or have lost track of it, please contact a local Colorado Parks and Wildlife office or call the main number, 303.297.1192, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST.

How to Take the Exam​

Mountain Lion exams can be completed online below, or in-person at a Colorado Parks and Wildlife office.

​Studying for the Exam

Familiarize yourself with the Mountain Lion hunting regulations and Lion identification information found in the exam guide and current hunting brochure.​​​​​

Upon Successful Completion of the Exam

  • ​Scoring 80% or higher is required to pass the exam.
  • Exam results will be automatically reported and stored in CPW's licensing system so you can purchase a license. 
  • Please allow 1 hour after successfully passing the exam for our electronic systems to update your record. 
  • Lion hunters must have their Mountain Lion Certification verified on their Customer Identification Number (CID) to be able to purchase a mountain lion license. Once you have been verified on your CID, you do not need to carry the certificate or wallet card.​​
