CPW accepting applications for shooting range development grants through April 10

DATE: Feb. 4, 2026DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife is now accepting applications for shooting range construction and improvement grants through the Shooting Range Grant Development Program (SRDG). Established in 2009, the program is the largest of its kind in the nation and has supported more than 125 shooting range improvement projects across Colorado.
An estimated $750,000 will be available in the 2026 grant cycle, although that amount could increase based on available funding. Archery ranges are also eligible for grant funding. Applications are due to CPW by April 10, 2026.
Travis Long, coordinator of the Shooting Range Grant Program, said the grants have been instrumental in developing new shooting ranges while improving safety and facilities at existing ones. “The program has allowed many ranges to expand their capacity and modernize their infrastructure, using grant funding to support the growth of shooting sports by attracting new users and keeping current participants engaged.”
Some examples of range improvements over just the last few years include fortifying berms and backstops, improved lighting, ADA access, new firing lines and shade structures, development of entirely new ranges and additional recreational shooting opportunities.
Grants will be for a minimum of $5,000 and a maximum to be determined by the review and approval process. Program funds can cover up to 75% of eligible project costs.
“Public access that reflects the level of funding support is a key factor in the review process,” Long said. “CPW is committed to expanding safe, accessible recreational shooting opportunities statewide, and this grant program demonstrates our collaborative approach to making that happen.”
