About This Ranch
Four Mile Ranch is located about 26 miles north of Craig on Hwy 13. Portions of the ranch are accessed by Moffat County Roads 38 and 40.
The ranch is located in an area where elk herds have been over herd objective. It is now at or approaching objective and cow license levels have been reduced in response. This is a migratory elk herd. The ranch continues its work with CPW to assist in achieving herd objectives. Since elk do not always remain on the ranch and harvest levels off the ranch are high, the size of bulls available to hunters should not be considered "trophy" class.
Terrain
The vegetation varies from creek bottom willow riparian areas and some hay meadow areas, rolling sagebrush hills, rising through oak brush/serviceberry shrub land to aspen and some mixed conifer forest. Most of the ranch is located east of Hwy 13 with about 1,800 acres west of Hwy 13. Four Mile Creek drains the ranch from east to west-northwest. While Fortification Creek drains from east to west and turns south on the ranch. Some very dense areas of oak brush/serviceberry exist on the ranch.
Access
Access on the ranch is by 4-wheel drive on existing, marked ranch roads. Motorized access during wet weather will be limited to ATVs. ATVs must stay on developed roads at all times.
