About This Ranch
Ranch is located approximately 40 miles north, northeast of Craig. Snake River RFW is located in an area where elk are substantially over the herd objective and the elk herd is migratory. Since antlered elk do not always remain on the ranch and harvest levels off the ranch are high, the size of bulls available to hunters should not be considered "trophy" class.

Terrain
The vegetation varies from rolling sagebrush hills up to mountain shrub to aspen and mixed aspen/spruce-fir forest. Water courses drain to Slater Creek and onto the Snake River near the Colorado–Wyoming border which lies only 3 to 6 miles north.
Access
Due to the timing of some hunts, the ranch feels that it is important that hunters have a 4-wheel drive vehicle. If a hunter does not have a 4-wheel drive vehicle, there are some areas of the ranch that are accessible from County Road 1. However, hunters must be aware that some of these areas will only get them in the proximity of game and may require further access by foot or horseback. Hunters with a 4-wheel drive vehicle should keep in mind that roads can be a safety hazard in certain weather conditions and may be closed as a precaution. ATVs are allowed but will not be allowed off-road use.

Ranching for Wildlife (RFW)
This property is part of the Ranching for Wildlife program. The Ranching for Wildlife program provides Colorado residents a unique opportunity to hunt on private ranch land normally closed to the public. Participating ranches provide public hunting recreation access to their land free of charge to those who draw licenses.
Through this program, hunters can play an important role in helping CPW and landowners manage wildlife populations on private land. In addition to providing public hunting access to successful applicants, participating landowners are required to improve habitat on their ranch for both game and non-game animals. These efforts help preserve and enhance open spaces for wildlife to live and thrive and keep the hunting heritage alive for you and future generations.
