Whether you are an avid hiker, mountain biker or hunter - or you simply appreciate all the Colorado outdoors has to offer -- there are many ways you can get involved. Colorado state parks have a variety of employment and volunteer opportunities. Jobs include naturalists, maintenance and administrative work, ranging from full to part time, and temporary. Volunteer opportunities include wildlife monitoring and being a campground host. Check out the opportunities below for more information.

Volunteer Highlights
Campground Host
Campground hosts check campers in, answer visitor questions, maintain the campground and perform other duties as assigned.
Boat Patrol Assistant
Love the water? Come help our rangers connect with boaters! You'll be out on the water, supporting water safety practices and boating rules. You may manage boat distance when a ranger makes contact, and may help with safety inspections, such as handing life jackets to rangers.
Visitor Services
Help support Jackson Lake State Park at either the front entrance gate or in the Visitor Center! This role will assist with selling passes, providing basic park information, and performing light office maintenance such as restocking maps and updating information boards.
Special Projects
Projects can be discussed as opportunities arise. Examples include: volunteer program assistance, assist with special events, maintenance and construction, providing equipment, donating funds or providing expertise.
Artists
Call for Artists — Paid Opportunity!
Jackson Lake State Park is seeking up to 10 talented artists to create permanent public murals. Apply by January 15, 2027.
The Details:
- $1,000 Honorarium
- Materials provided: All professional-grade paints, primers, brushes, and UV/anti-graffiti sealants are provided by the park. Artists may keep any brushes and select materials used, if desired, after project completion.
- A permanent plaque acknowledging the artist will be affixed to the artwork.
The Concept:
Artists may choose to submit proposals for one or both of the following concepts:
- Concept #1: Dedicated to the 7 Principles of Leave No Trace, tailored to Jackson Lake’s unique ecosystem.
- Concept #2: Celebrating the local culture, heritage, and agricultural history of Northeast Colorado.
How to Apply:
Submit one PDF to [email protected] by January 15, 2027.
Include the following:
- A Color Sketch: A rough draft of your vision for the chosen theme(s).
- Artist Statement: A one-paragraph explanation of how your design encourages park visitors to care for the land.
- Portfolio Sample: 2–3 photos of previous work (any medium).
