What’s available at State Forest
Open to the public year-round, State Forest offers camping, rustic cabins and yurts, all in close proximity to the park’s miles of trails. Electric hook-ups, tent camping and rugged backcountry experiences are available. Cabins can accommodate up to six people. One ADA-accessible campsite is available.

Unwind in State Forest’s cabins.
Thirteen rustic cabins are available for rent year-round at the North Michigan and North Park campgrounds. Each cabin accommodates six people with two bunk beds with mattresses. Two lodges at North Michigan can sleep up to 21 and 15. Each rustic cabin and lodge has benches, propane heat, solar powered lights and outdoor fire pits with grills.
Two deluxe cabins are also available at the North Park campground. Each deluxe cabin has benches, electric heat, lights and outlets.

Yurts are round hard-sided structures with circular skylights and windows to provide illumination. The yurts at State Forest State Park include solar/electric stoves and outlets. All yurts and huts include beds.

Visitors enjoy the many activities available in the park, from mountain biking and hiking to hunting, fishing, cross-country skiing and more. Sylvan Lake has three accessible campsites.

Reserve a Campsite

A reservation is required to camp at Golden Gate Canyon State Park, and it’s easy to make one. Reservations can be made for campsites, yurts and cabins online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance of your arrival date. Visitors are required to display a vehicle pass and have a valid reservation.

Whether you’re camping in a tent or RV, State Forest’s campsites offer amenities to make your stay more comfortable.

When you camp at State Forest State Park, check-in time is 1 p.m. on the day of arrival and check-out time is 12 p.m. (noon) on the day of departure. A reservation is necessary, and camping is allowed only in designated areas. The maximum stay is 14 days within a 28-day period. A maximum of six people, two motorized vehicles and only one camping unit is allowed per individual site. Group campgrounds can accommodate up to 75 campers, depending on the campground. Parking on vegetation may result in a fine. Please do not tie anything, including hammocks, to the trees.
All pets must be under control and on a maximum six-foot leash at all times, and not attached to any park signs, trees, shrubs or hydrants. Pets may not be left unattended, and pet owners must promptly clean up after their pets. Leashed pets are allowed in campgrounds, picnic areas and on designated trails.
Reservations are available year-round. Some amenities may not be available during the winter months. Check with the park office at 970-723-8366 if you have any questions about winter amenities.

Cabins and Yurts
Stay in Style
Cabins, yurts and huts offer a comfortable way to enjoy the outdoors and offer easy access to stream fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing and more.
State Forest’s six available rustic cabins, set along the shore of North Michigan Reservoir, are available year-round by reservation only. Cabins have solar-powered lights but no other electricity and no running water, blankets or bedding. One cabin is ADA accessible.
State Forest State Park’s seven yurts are round hard-sided structures with circular skylights and windows to provide illumination. They include beds and solar/electric stoves and outlets.
Nokhu Hut offers solar lighting and outlets, a wood stove, beds, propane cooking stove and an outhouse.

Know Before You Go
Camper cabins can accommodate up to six people. Each cabin has one queen-sized bed and three twin-sized bunk beds. The beds have mattresses but no bedding. The cabins are all equipped with heat, solar lighting, a storage cabinet, and a table and chairs. The large cabin can accommodate up to 12 people and is fully furnished with a full kitchen, living/dining area and bathroom with a shower.
Visitors will need to bring bedding, such as sleeping bags and/or sheets, blankets and pillows. There is no refrigerator, so guests should bring a cooler for food.

Yurts can accommodate up to six people. Each yurt has one twin-sized bunk bed and two futons. The beds have mattresses but no bedding. Visitors will need to bring bedding, such as sleeping bags and/or sheets, blankets and pillows. The yurts and huts are also equipped with a wood stove, a propane cook stove and dishware, a lantern, a storage cabinet, and a table and chairs and access to an outhouse. There is no refrigerator, so guests should bring a cooler for food.

Cabins
The maximum stay in any of the cabins is two weeks out of every 45 days. All vehicles entering the park must have a valid parks pass in addition to the cabin fee. Cabin check-in time is after 4 p.m. of the arrival date, so that our maintenance crew can clean the cabins. Check-out time is 12 p.m. (noon).
Pets are permitted in the cabins for a fee of $10 per night (not per pet). Pets must be kept on a leash at all times outside of the cabins, and should not be left unattended. Pet owners are expected to clean up after their pets.
Cabins, yurts and huts may be reserved year-round.
