Park Highlight
Explore Steamboat Lake
The park's main attraction is the 1,053-surface-acre lake that rests in valley surrounded by mountains and views of the Continental Divide. A full-service marina and swim beach provide amenities for active water play. The lake is very rarely crowded, and is ideally zoned to be well suited for everything from waterskiing to trolling.
Lake Facilities
Facilities
Dock, cabin and boat rentals, fuel, snacks, camping supplies and firewood are available at the marina. The marina is located on the northwest side of the lake.
Campers can leave their boats along the shore near their campsite or rent dock space from the marina. A boat trailer storage area, located west of the marina, is available for visitors staying at the park. Visit the marina website or call them at 970-879-7019.
A fishing pier is available at Sage Flats on the east side of the lake.
The swim beach is located adjacent to the marina parking lot and is tested regularly throughout the summer for water quality. Colorado State Park swim beaches do not have lifeguards on duty. Swim at your own risk. Children must be supervised by adults at all times.
Boating and Fishing
Boating
The park contains a beautiful 1,053-surface-acre lake at 8,100 feet, surrounded by mountains including views of the Continental Divide. The lake is open from May 1 through November 1 each year. Some coves and inlets are restricted to wakeless boating and are indicated by buoys. A large portion of the lake is zoned for wake boating, water skiers and jet skiers to enjoy. Please observe all boating laws and regulations.
Boat Inspections
All boats that are on a trailer have to be inspected at an aquatic nuisance species station prior to launching. Inspections can be done during posted inspection hours at the boat ramps or at the Visitor Center. Rangers will also inspect boats by request. To speed up the inspection process, boaters are encouraged to clean, drain and dry their vessel. If ANS are detected on any watercraft, decontamination is required.
A seal of inspection can be obtained at an inspection station, the Visitor Center or by contacting a ranger. Before you launch, remove the seal from your boat and place in the drop box along with the seal receipt. Launching outside of inspection hours is prohibited without a valid seal and receipt.
Fishing
Steamboat Lake offers excellent opportunities for bait, lure and fly fishing.
Ice Fishing
Ice fishing is allowed when conditions permit. Please use caution when ice fishing. Have proper safety equipment and follow safety guidelines.
