What’s available at Trinidad Lake
Trinidad Lake State Park offers 73 campsites across two campgrounds with great views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Electrical services are available at every site in the Carpios Ridge Campground, with sites 1-4, 6, 62 and 63 offering full hook-ups from April 16 to November 14. The South Shore Campground is open from mid-April to mid-October. Water hydrants are available, and a camper services building with showers, laundry and flush toilets is open from mid-March to mid-October. During the winter season, the family restrooms are available. Group camping is available at the Piedmont group camping area from mid-April to mid-October every year. Universally accessible facilities are available at the Carpios Ridge Campground.

Trinidad Lake’s campgrounds are a great base camp for exploring the park’s 10+ miles of trails, which are open to hikers and mountain bikers. Ten Campsites are accessible at the South Shore Campground.
The South Shore Campground is closed for the season and will reopen to campers on May 1st, 2026.
The park’s beautiful lakeside setting, plethora of outdoor activities and proximity to the mountains make it a great destination for those looking to get away.
Reserve a Campsite

A reservation is required to camp at Trinidad Lake State Park, and it’s easy to make one. Reservations can be made online at cpwshop.com or by phone at 1-800-244-5613. Reservations can be made up to six months in advance of your arrival date. Visitors are required to display a vehicle pass and have a valid reservation.

Seasonal Closures: The South Shore Campground is closed for the season and will reopen to campers on May 1, 2026. For other options and closures that would affect winter camping, see the Staying During Winter area just below this, or call the park at 719-846-6951.
When you camp at Trinidad Lake State Park, check-in time is 1 p.m. on the day of arrival and check-out time is 12 p.m. (noon) on the day of departure.
A reservation is necessary, and camping is allowed only in designated areas.
Please do not park on the vegetation or off the roadway.
The maximum stay is 14 days within a 28-day period.
A maximum of six people are allowed per campsite.
One tent and one Camper/RV is permitted at one campsite OR 2 tents and no Camper/RV is permitted at a single campsite.
Trinidad Lake is a pet-friendly park. Leashed pets are allowed at campsites. All pets must be under control and on a maximum six-foot leash at all times, and not attached to any park signs, trees, shrubs or hydrants. Pets may not be left unattended, and pet owners must promptly clean up after their pets.
Trinidad Lake is open year-round for camping at sites 1 to 23, 62 and 63. Electricity is available at all sites, and water is available at community water hydrants. Water will be turned off to full hook-up sites beginning November 15 to April 15 to accommodate freezing temperatures. Full hook-up sites will be sold at a reduced rate due to limited amenities.
The South Shore campground is closed between mid-October and mid-May.

Seasonal Closures
- Water: All the water hydrants in the Carpios Ridge Campground have been turned off for the winter. This includes all community hydrants AND hydrants located at campsites. Potable water may be accessed at the water hydrants near the Sopris and Viola group picnic areas east of the visitor center.
- Carpios Ridge Campground: Sites 24-61 of the Carpios Ridge Campground are closed for the winter season. Campers may still reserve sites 1-23, 62, and 63. The comfort station, located on Carpios Ridge, is closed until the spring of 2026. Visitors may use the restroom facilities at the visitor center or the family restrooms at the camper services building in the Carpios Ridge Campground.
- Camper Services Building: The main portion of the camper services building is closed for the season. Campers will not have access to laundry facilities or community restrooms. Campers may use the family restrooms located on the northeast side of the camper services building instead.
- Dump Station: The flush stand at the dump station has been winterized for the season.
