Hunting License Accommodations

As of Monday March 23, our Licensing vendor is experiencing significant delays in fulfillment of CPW products due to “shelter in place” orders related to COVID-19. This means they are currently backlogged in printing and mailing licenses, passes or other CPW products. In response to these delays, we will be allowing customers to use a TAN (Temporary Authorization Number) for proof of privilege for most of our products at this time. This includes small game, combination small game and fishing, waterfowl and habitat stamps. We have also temporarily extended the timeframe for which a TAN is valid from 14 days to 45 days

For the most up to date information on how CPW is responding to COVID-19, visit the COVID-19 Response page.

License and HIP Year

The annual license and Harvest Information Program (HIP) year are the same, beginning on April 1 annually and concluding March 31 annually.

Small-game licenses are available from any sales agent, CPW office, online, or by phone at 1-800-244-5613.

If you intend to hunt small game (including migratory birds) in Colorado, you need a new Harvest Information Program number. Register through the Harvest Information Program (HIP).

License Requirements

Hunters must have a small game license, youth small game or combination license, federal duck stamp and a Colorado Waterfowl Stamp to hunt waterfowl. For more information on license requirements and waterfowl hunting, see the Small Game and Waterfowl Regulations Brochure.

NOTE: The 2020-2021 Small Game and Waterfowl Hunting Regulations Brochure comes out in August annually. Season Dates and Fees are updated below at this time.
